BIOGRAFÍA

Bill Haley fue un músico estadounidense, uno de los fundadores del rock and roll. Nació en Highland Park, un barrio de Detroit, el 6 de julio de 1925 y murió en Texas el 9 de febrero de 1981. Comenzó como músico de Country y poco a poco adaptó sonidos de Jazz y Blues, siendo así uno de los primeros músicos en tocar sonidos de Rock and Roll sin ser negro (lo habitual entonces).

Hay quienes datan el origen del rock and roll en 1954, con el trabajo discográfico de Bill Haley y su grupo "Bill Haley and the Comets", evolucionando desde el country y el rockabilly, así como desde el rithm and blues, especialmente con Crazy Man Crazy y su gran éxito Rock Around The Clock (1955), una reinterpretación del clásico de Jimmy Myers y Max Freedman, y que ya había sido grabado en 1952 por Sunny Dae & His Nights.

Eran curiosamente frecuentes sus giras latinoaméricas, incluso llegó a grabar canciones en español. Tal fue su influencia latina que el padre del Rock and Roll fue adentrándose poco a poco en el mundo del Twist.

Haley desarrolló gran parte de su carrera musical con su grupo, que tuvo varios nombres, pero el más conocido es Bill Haley and his Comets. Con ellos comenzó en 1949, bajo el nombre de Bill Haley and the Saddlemen, tocando Country, básicamente. Fue en 1952 cuando cambiaron su nombre a Bill Haley and his Comets (nombre tomado por la similitud entre el apellido de Bill y el cometa Halley), hecho que fue debido a su estilo, que cambió hacia el Rock and Roll. Con ellos tocó hasta su muerte en 1981. Tras la disolución del grupo, muchos han sido los que han intentado adoptar la identidad de los sucesores de esta banda, sin esclarecerse realmente cuál podría ser el verdadero.
